Vipassana Meditation Retreat

Most of us have some type of ache or pain at some time.

Have you ever wondered if it is health related or perhaps an emotion that is causing the discomfort?

I have been given some information from one of my students about a Vipassana retreat.

For 10 days you have no connection with the outside world.

No cellphones, no television, no computer.

No talking. Because talking with others about your problems and their problems, makes everyone share the problems.

Each day you meditate and focus on part of your body.

If you want to register you can take a look at Vipassana Meditation Centre, Dhamma Torana.

Check it out to clean your mind!

Ujjayi breath

A breath that means victorious.

It is a breath created by inhaling through the nostrils and exhaling making a ha sound with your mouth closed.

You’ll feel a warm sensation at the back of your throat which sounds like the ocean.

This breath is wonderful for yoga and for any type of exercise. Brings oxygen to the heart faster than normal breath.

Try it on your next walk or bike ride and see the increase in your energy !

Spring Classes!

There is still room for you to join me for a relaxing and gentle yoga class.

Be prepared to fall asleep when you get home. Wear your jammies if you like.

Classes start the week of the 19th at Ray Friel in the Serenity Room upstairs.

Tuesday is 7-8pm.

Wednesday is 6:30-7:30pm.

Thursday is 6:30-7:30pm and 7:30-8:30pm.

Hope to see you there!

Namaste!

Register today !

You can register on line for my spring and summer sessions at Ray Friel.

I am teaching starting the week of the 20th of May thru to the 23rd week of June.

My next session will then begin the middle of July, to the middle of August.

Hope to see you soon.

Namaste!

Your diet

Yes that four letter word.

Is it necessary to become a vegan if I teach or practice yoga?

The answer is no. Try for one week, to eat just raw foods.

Nuts, vegetables and fruits.

Become aware of how you feel that week. Make your own decision and if you find it is too hard, then, maybe just practice this for yourself one week out of the month.

True meaning of Hatha

I just did a workshop with David Swenson’s first instructor;

His brother Doug.

Doug explained to us that Yoga has been very americanized and the practice of Hatha is to mean a softer and gentle Yoga.

In fact it actually means any type of Yoga.

Welcome Back!

Just wanted to give you all some information regarding my teaching at the Ray Friel Centre.

We have officially scheduled my classes all the way to May 2009! Wow! That is a long way off.

The Hatha will be running at the same times and throughout the summer.

We will have a few breaks in the early summer and late summer.

Thinking of some Petrie Island lessons as well.

Stay tuned!

Drop in classes!!!

Hi Everyone!

Due to the weather this week and low attendance the 6:30pm and 7:30pm at Ray Friel will be cancelled!

You can register for our next session, which starts the week of the 24th!

March 2008!

Hi everyone!

Wanted to let you all know that I will be having drop in classes the week of the 3rd of March!

They will be held in the same Serenity Room at the Ray Friel Centre.

I will be offering on the 4th at 7-8pm a Gentle yoga.

On the 5th, I will be teaching another Gentle class at 6:30-7:30pm.

And on the 6th, I will be having another Gentle class at 7:30-8:30pm.

As something a little more challenging, I will be offering a Power yoga on the 6th at 6:30-7:30pm. This class is very close to the Ashtanga practice. You may want to bring a towel with you. Please remember to take all classes as your own pace! Don’t feel intimidated by the Power class!

Hope to see you all there!!!! Bring a friend!

Nutrition and Yoga

As some of you know, I went overboard in 2007 with my eating habits. Lots of sweets and high fat foods. Not only did I gain some weight, but my energy went down and I always felt tired.

From the beginning of the month, I decided to start eating cleaner. I turned to a few almonds for snacks and ate smaller portions with low fat content. I also substituted fruit for my sugar cravings!

I now have more energy and noticed how my clothes are fitting.

Try to change your diet up for a week and see how your body changes. Your ujjayi breathing will not be as stressful and the forward asanas will become easier to practice!
