I’m Back!

Sorry,

I’ve been away for awhile.

Wishing you a Happy New Year.

It is cold and flu season and to keep the poisons away, try to squeeze in a Vinyasa or three, before you head out the door.

A Vinyasa is any type of movement when standing upright to bending down to the floor. It can involve lunges and planks, if you want to get a bit of cardio in.

This will not only stretch you out for the day, but it strengthens your immune system.

If you are getting a cold, try to do some forward bending postures, to get the mucus running out and some back bends to open up your lungs, so you can breathe easier.

Remember it is all about the breath!

Meditation and water…

After a long day, take some time for yourself.

Run a hot bath, dim the lights and burn some incense. Sandalwood is my favorite.

Use the water to practice meditation and let your creativity flow.

Think about relaxing all your body parts. One by one.

From the tips of your toes, to the crown of your head.

Use your breathing to relax. Six counts in through your nostrils and eight counts out.

I don’t practice yoga because I have no time.

Unfortunately, I hear this more than I want to admit.

Here are some simple tips to doing some yoga, even when at the office.

Do some simple slow neck rotations. Start from the right side, making a circle with your chin and then go to the left.

Shoulder shrugs. Lift the shoulders to the ears and then slowly move down to the hips.

Interlace your hands and pull your arms forward. Think of making a huge circle with your arms.

Clasp your hands behing your head and pull your elbows back.

All of these are simple yoga stretches that can release stress, anxiety, and tension from your body.

And remember,

Breathe!

A New Alternative!

Instead of listening to soft chanting traditional music to practice yoga with. Put on some easy rock music and maintain a gentle flow.

Here are some of my favourites.

Mercy Street by Peter Gabriel

Learning to Fly by Pink Floyd

Mad World by Michael Andrews

Ripples by Genesis

Enjoy!

Competing!

Ever been to a class where there are people that are doing really tricky postures and have over hundred dollar clothing on?

Remember to keep it simple. It isn’t about being able to do a handstand into a back bend, while wearing someone’s logo!

It is all about being comfortable with what you wear and how you feel in general.

Always underachieve in your poses and wear pyjamas if you want to.

Because in the end, when you are lying in corpse posture and allowing yourself to relax, the most important part?

Ashtanga Yoga and Spin

Hi everyone,

Ashtanga yoga is a very powerful practice. Think of yourself as a tree and growing eight limbs.

Each posture done in a specific sequence, so that you can explore your own branches and experience the changes.

I am at Bob Macquarrie Centre in Orleans, Ontario, Canada from 8:00-9:30pm, teaching an indoor cycling class known as spinning. We then follow that by Ashtanga yoga, to stretch and relax afterwords.

Hope to see you there!

Welcome back!

Hope everyone enjoyed the last four weeks and are ready to start up a new session.

Don’t be hard on yourself if you did not practice. You can still gain the flexibility back in the next eight weeks.

There is still room available on Thursdays at 6:30pm at Ray Friel Recreation Centre on Tenth Line in Orleans, Ontario, Canada!

All the other classes are full, but you can still register ahead for the next session in November.

Hope to see you soon.
